The Heimlich Manoeuvre

The Heimlich Manoeuvre, or the abdominal thrust, is used when all attempts to dislodge an obstruction in the airway of a casualty fail. It should only be used as a last resort, since it can cause internal injury, but it can be used on both conscious and unconscious victims of choking. This manoeuvre works by driving a sudden burst of air from the lungs, which should expel anything blocking the airways.
