Removing clothing

Only remove clothing if it is necessary to assess the extent of injury or to perform emergency treatment. Occasionally it may be necessary to remove clothing which is constrictive, or when the casualty is overheated. In general, however, try to disturb the casualty as little as possible, and always ask a conscious victim for permission before removing anything.
