Smoke inhalation

Inhaling smoke can be dangerous for two reasons. First of all, the fire causing the smoke will reduce the available oxygen, leading to asphyxia. Secondly, smoke is highly irritating to the airway and may even cause tight closure of the vocal cords, cutting off the airway. Some types of smoke are also poisonous.
Once the casualty has been dragged away from the smoke, and their burning clothes have been dealt with, begin to treat the casualty as follows.
